Selena Gomez Is Cybermiler Of The Month Award Winner For November

People searching for acceptance and validation through social media is a huge problem that often ends in pain and disappointment, well done Selena for putting things in perspective!

Strong women is definitely proven to be the recurring theme of late. Following on from October’s Cybersmiler of the Month winner Ariel Winter, the next female to join the list is one who you may have noticed has gone silent over the last 3 months, and in case you’re not amongst one of her 103 million followers, we’re talking about the queen on Instagram – none other then Selena Gomez.

The number one singer and hit actress decided to take a break from the limelight and the pressures of social media, to focus on herself. Selena announced during the AMA (American Music Awards) that she had been struggling to manage her anxiety and depression. The inspirational and moving speech took place whilst picking up the award for favourite female pop/rock artist.

Selena sent the message during her powerful announcement that the world shouldn’t depend on using social media for self validation or acceptance if you are broken, stating “I don’t want to see your bodies on Instagram, I want to see what’s in here,” motioning to her heart.

“I’m not trying to get validation, nor do I need it anymore. But if you are broken, you do not need to stay broken.”

Selena Gomez, Cybersmiler Of The Month

The insight into her life showed that despite her professional successes, being so open on the internet through social media has generated a negative reality. The moral to be taken from this heart filled story is that putting personal wellbeing and mental health above all else is vital when using the internet. If you ever feel broken always be brave enough to come forward and ask for help, we can support you wherever you are in the world.

So on our next social post, let’s try to show what’s in our hearts, and use the power of the internet and social media to spread positivity and heart.
