We are excited to announce Perrie Edwards as our Cybersmiler of the Month Award winner for April. The Little Mix star has been dealing with terrible panic attacks for several years and decided to confront her fears and share her story publicly in the hope that her situation can help others overcome their anxiety issues.

Often on tour with Little Mix around the world and frequently finding herself in stressful situations, Perrie is closely followed by the paparazzi and has struggled to overcome feelings of extreme anxiousness.

Perrie decided enough was enough and published an Instagram post to tell her fans that she had been suffering from anxiety and panic attacks, in the hope that it would help to break down the stigma associated with mental health issues and send a clear message that it is ok to not be ok.

“When I first started to feel the effects of anxiety I thought I was losing my mind and it terrified me. I felt so alone and like I was the first person in the world to ever experience it.”

The experience of panic and anxiety had such a serious effect on Perrie that she found herself isolated from people and even struggled to go outside her home.

Facing the challenges of coming to terms with her anxiety, Perrie took the brave decision to detail her experience of anxiety and how it made her feel. She said she had felt like “a prisoner” and was still suffering from anxiety today – but things are getting better.

“I had therapy and I surround myself with my loved ones. Talking to someone relieves you of SO MUCH STRESS. I worked out coping mechanism’s and learned what the triggers are so that I can fight the attacks before they take hold.”

Perrie’s brave decision to share her struggles reminds us that sometimes people we least expect are suffering, often in silence, and also that we can all go through difficulties that can affect our mental health – nobody is exempt.

We think Perrie is a true Cybersmiler by opening up about her experiences to break down stigma associated with anxiety and mental health issues – well done Perrie!
