GoFundMe and ‘Stuff Curry’ Team Up To Raise Money For Cybersmile

Details of how you can get involved and support the campaign are at the bottom of this news story, you know you want to!

GoFundMe, the worlds biggest online fundraising platform, announced this week the launch of the ‘#StuffCurryWish’ campaign to raise awareness of cyberbullying while raising vital funds for Cybersmile at the same time!

It all started when 10 month old Landon Lee’s striking resemblance to basketball superstar Steph Curry, one of the NBA’s most valuable players was spotted. Pictures of the baby quickly went viral on social media by delighted fans marveling at the likeness between the diminutive toddler and the basketball superstar.

The picture soon caught the attention of internet haters who tagged the youngster ‘Stuff Curry’ – mocking his chubby appearance. Landon’s mother, Jessica Benton was bewildered at the ‘fat shaming’ of her infant son until she searched online and discovered the truth.

What people did not know was that Jessica lost her eldest son to suicide at the age of twenty and was not going to let Landon become yet another victim of online hate.

‘To counteract the conversations mocking my son and my parenting, I decided to take ownership of his new nickname, “Stuff Curry.” I worked to change the tone of the situation from one that cyber-bullied my infant to a positive outcome.’

‘As a mom, I want Landon to grow up and be sensitive to others feelings. I want him to stand up for what is right and protect others. We may now accept the name Stuff Curry, but many others will never be able to escape the torturous words people may type about them.’

Landon is now becoming an internet sensation with nearly 80,000 followers on Instagram, turning what could have been just another case of cyberbullying into an inspirational campaign of awareness for an issue that affects millions of people, young and old – across the globe.

‘ I am astonished at the bravery Landon’s mother has shown in owning this slur aimed at her beautiful baby son and turning it into something truly wonderful. She is an inspiration to us all and we are humbled by her commitment to our cause’

So, between the amazing crowdfunding platform GoFundMe, the little superstar himself ‘Stuff Curry’ and his awesome Mum Jessica an AMAZING target of $25,000 has been set to be fundraised which can go a LONG way in helping Cybersmile offer cyberbullying education and support for those in need. So what are you waiting for? Nip over to the #StuffCurryWish campaign page and pledge your support to this unique campaign!

“I love how Cybersmile brings awareness and support for victims. But most of all how they support schools by educating what cyberbullying is and how online words can hurt even when the person writing them don’t understand their impact.”
