Cybersmile are excited to announce Melisa Raouf as August’s Cybersmiler of the Month Award winner for her powerful decision to not wear any makeup as a contestant in the UK’s Miss England competition finals – the first contestant to do so in the pageant’s 94-year history. By winning the award, she joins a host of previous winners who have been recognized for their inspiring and selfless work including Selena Gomez, Camila Cabello and Bella Hadid.
Melisa, a 20-year-old student from London, progressed forward in the event and is now competing in the finals in October. Her decision to compete without make up is a first in the history of the competition and an important step forward in body image empowerment. Director of Miss England, Angie Beasley, praised the decision, commenting, “We wish her the best of luck in Miss England, it’s a very brave thing to do when everyone else is wearing makeup but she’s sending out an important message to young women.”
“It means a lot to me as I feel many girls of different ages wear makeup because they feel pressured to do so. If one is happy in their own skin, we should not be made to cover up our face with makeup. Our flaws make us who we are and that’s what makes every individual unique”
Melisa Raouf, Cybersmiler of the Month
Commenting on her advocacy and support for natural beauty she said: “I never felt I met beauty standards. I have recently accepted that I am beautiful in my own skin and that’s why I decided to compete with no makeup.” Raouf also uses her social media to spread her message and posted a selfie during the semi-final round telling her followers she was ‘embracing blemishes and imperfections.’
Everybody at Cybersmile would like to say a huge THANK YOU to Melisa for making this decision that will empower so many people – celebrating natural beauty and for the inspirational message you are sharing with the world. Melisa – you are a true Cybersmiler!
