what is Esports?

Well funny story, Esports have been around for a long time now in gaming, but started small, started with small competition, started with GB (game Battles) a ways for people to fight other hardcore gamers and see who is the best, I myself joined gamebattles but lost a lot, as time grew, MLG was formed know as Major League Gaming, finally a place where video game and sports mesh together as one.

Only one problem, how to broadcast, people didnt understand the notion of video game being a sport or how do you make a living out of this? well as time went on, organizer saw a way to make a living by giving people better cash prizes, but wasnt enough except a hero arose.

Call of duty (cod) and Halo, change the way how MLG should of been, it wasnt a perfect pot but a start, with cash prizes, organized teams that are now grown, including players who train and found a calling, as the game grew, players grew more interested as fans started to come, and with fans more people wanted to be like them, finally a calling, the so called "you cant never make a living while playing video games" stigma was gone, but years passed and one game shaped the way and Esports officially grew its wings.

League of Legends change the way Esport was built, League of Legends a MOBA (Massive Online Battle Arena) started out small competition, but with one clear difference, and that difference was Riot Gaming the company of Leage of Legends, they took the concept of Esports and made it better, how so?

1. teams - during season 1, we had small teams that were starting out, then we had the big boy teams who have organization.

2. Organization - there was a problem with MLG back then, what day are the matches and who is fighting and where to watch it, RIOT changed that:

A. A bracket system was born, similar to sports you watch.

B. Schedule LCS (League Champion Series) had a official schedule, Friday - Sunday for North America (NA) Thursday - Friday Europe (EU) and so on, this was perfect to watch your favorite team and catch up.

C. Fans, as league and other MOBA games grew, so did the fan base, and now they have Jerseys, Twitter, pretty much like you see in sports, now its video game turned

D. Support: League i will say this, people should study the way they organized their game and sport, listen to fans, dont let another company take them away and make schedules, now its starting to take shape but needs more.

so pretty much who do I support and who you should check out?

Well for me personally TSM (Team Solo Mid) they started out young, like they where a small group, now they have become the biggest group of NA, and part of Europe, im happy to buy their jersey.

Fanatic: EU team, very strong they have branches in EU and other known parts

C9 also known as cloud 9: NA team but has grown over part of NA and EU

CLG (Counter Logic Gaming): NA group started the same as TSM and now they grew with chapters in both NA and EU and smaller female groups like CLG red, black and so on, also if you watch the league of legends these two are the biggest rival in history.

and there are more teams out there, just pick who you think its the best and what game your team will be playing on.

Sites: well twitch.tv is your only source, ESPN has said they will broadcast games, but right now its still not sure, but hopefully Esports will grown and see it on ESPN. But on TBS counter strike is being televise every Friday.

well this is PT1, i will talk about Esports more and this week more info, thank you Cybersmile gaming terky out.

Fantastic post Terky, you are so knowledgable. We can all learn lots from you! Do you think Esports will replace IRL sports events such as the World Cup (soccer) etc?

I have been reading about some huge developments in esports. Sky TV have announced an esports channel due to be launched in the UK and some top football teams like Manchester City are now hiring esports players as well. I can see esports catching up with real sports in terms of viewers and participants. In 5 years we could see an esports soccer world cup that is bigger than the real one.
