What is your favorite social media platform and why?

We have always liked Twitter, because we can practice our comedy, keep our fans updated on our shows, and debunk any lies about us! But it has become a toxic swamp, and isn’t as much fun as it used to be. Even if you post a joke, someone has to jump in and criticize it for no reason at all. We just block and delete.

Do you think social media is a blessing or a curse?

Definitely both! We are self-employed, so we need to advertise using social media. We don’t have a big PR machine behind us. But the curse is that any loser with a keyboard can say anything anonymously about you. Oddly enough, we get attacked even though our predictions are accurate. Bullies criticize everything we do, even our hair, makeup, and the fact that we dress alike. (We tell people we dress alike to confuse predators in the wild.)

Have you ever been personally targeted with cyberbullying or online abuse?

Bullies have attacked us for 30 years, but it got a lot worse as we became more famous. Our growing popularity on social media platforms magnified the intensity of the attacks. For years, we had stalkers who sent us death threats every day, and we had to get the LAPD Stalker Unit involved. We actually are psychic detectives and helped the police track down and arrest one guy.

How did it make you feel? How do you deal with it?

Nothing is worse, to be honest. We went through every possible emotion. But the anger fueled us to take action against hate. Online bullying has become a blood sport. We are fairly high profile and an easy target. One thing that really surprised us was that our biggest bullies had themselves been victims of bullying!

So many tried to discourage or delegitimize us with the hope that we would stop doing our work. Even when we provided concrete evidence on tape they would condemn or dismiss it, which is a form of gaslighting. We call it ‘psychic shaming.’ We have something no other psychic has, which is empirical evidence on tape. Our predictions are unedited and time-stamped. Our credibility is not up for debate. But it made us stronger and smarter. They can’t debunk us, so they make up lies about us. We wrote our 4th book You Can’t Fix Stupid about our experiences with bullies and we give advice and tips about how to deal with bullying. We try to turn bad things into art and comedy and books, it’s kind of cathartic for us. You can’t let the terrorists win, right?

What advice would you give to someone being cyberbullied or abused online?

Try not to read the comments, and if you do get bullied, don’t engage with them. Ignore them. A bully is just someone who is in great pain and lashing out because they see that you are popular or loved. It’s their way of getting attention. Send them love and try to forgive them.

What do you think can or should be done to reduce the amount of abuse online?

Big social media platforms should have a zero tolerance policy, but that’s nearly impossible to manage. Channels engaged in abuse need to be shut down. The crazy thing is the channels with the biggest haters tend to get more subscribers and views. YouTube and Twitter both need to do better.

What would your message be to someone who thinks cyberbullying is just a joke?

Most bullies are not a serious threat. They are jealous or bored, and many of them have only one follower. They have to rationalize what they do by playing it off like a joke. But it is mean and harmful. If someone is famous and also a bully, that’s when you need to speak out against them.

What words of advice would you give to anybody anxious about following their dreams due to negativity online or fear of ridicule?

We always tell people to follow their dreams, but if it involves having a public persona you really need to ask yourself if you can handle the dark side of being public. Not everyone is cut out for it, and sadly, some people commit suicide after being bullied. Parents need to plug into what their kids are doing. Bullying causes depression and anxiety, especially in teens.

In 10 words or less, why is kindness so important?

Kindness heals us; it makes us happier and more connected.

What does the rest of this year and next year hold for The Psychic Twins? Is there anything exciting that we should be aware of?

This Friday our show “The UnXplained” airs on History Channel with host William Shatner (Star Trek legend). The episode entitled ‘Life Beyond Death’ airs August 23rd and ‘Mysteries of the Mind’ airs August 30th. On the show, we discuss our 3,000 world predictions, all documented, and what our life as psychic twins has been like. What is twin telepathy? We call this phenomenon “twintuition” and talk about how it saved our lives!

We are also writing our fifth book, and are really excited about it!
