Bobbie Shares Her Thoughts On Social Media And The Abuse That Comes With It

Everybody deals with cyberbullying and online abuse differently - Bobbie, who has over 3 million fans on Musical.ly deals with it by ignoring it and using their hate to motivate! If you need help with any kind of abuse online, follow the links within the article to access our support services.

What is your favourite social media platform and why?

My favourite social media platform is Musically as you can make very fun videos such as lip syncs, comedies, dances & more. Also you can just be yourself on there & not be judged, of course you still get haters but that’s normal. There are so many different types of people on there & it’s just such a welcoming community.

Do you think social media is a blessing or a curse?

It’s definitely a blessing. Don’t get me wrong, it can distract family time for some people but it’s still a blessing because you get to express yourself on social media and there will be plenty of people out there that relate to you & will help you get through anything negative that’s going on in your life. Also, you can meet so many new people online and make so many new friends. I met my boyfriend on Instagram and I’ve made loads of friends too!

Have you ever been affected by cyberbullying or online abuse?

Yes. I receive hate all the time.

How does cyberbullying make you feel?

At the beginning when I first ever started social media it used to make me feel really sad & down whenever I received hate but now I honestly don’t pay it any attention. I just laugh at the hate.

What advice would you give to someone being cyberbullied or abused online?

I know people deal with things in different ways but please try your hardest to not let bullies & hate get you down. Just read it and laugh. At the end of the day they are only hating because they are jealous of who you are and they are not happy with their own life. They are just keyboard warriors, trust me!

What do you think needs to be done to reduce the amount of negativity on the internet?

I honestly don’t think anything can be done to reduce negativity on the Internet as so many people use the Internet it would be impossible to remove every single hate post online. The only way negativity will stop is if people change their attitudes towards bullying but not everyone will.

What would your message be to someone who thinks cyberbullying is a joke?

Cyberbullying is NOT a joke! Loads & loads of people have committed suicide over bullying. How would that make you feel if you bullied someone so much that it caused them to take their own life? Imagine that was you or your future kids! People need to start being more positive, you only have one life & you should try and be as happy as you can and try your best to make other people happy!

Do you have a positive mantra or saying that you use to motivate yourself?

I know this is a typical one but “haters are my biggest motivators.” It’s because it’s a very true saying! When people hate on me it makes me want to do even better in life & try to become a successful woman so I can prove the haters wrong.

What words of advice would you give someone who wants to be a social media star or influencer, but is worried about being abused?

My advice would be to ignore all the hate because trust me you will definitely receive a lot of hate but you need to remember that there are more people in the world that love you than hate you. With that hate you will also receive a lot of love. Also, just be yourself! That’s the best thing to do!
