Sexism in Gaming

WE’VE NOTICED A WORRYING TREND OVER HERE AT CYBERSMILE HQ… IT’S ALL TO DO WITH GIRLS IN GAMING.

You may have heard about the huge #GamerGate saga that has been widely reported in the media over the past couple of months – arguments have arisen over reported misogyny and harassment amongst the gaming community and gamer journalism. Basically this means that lots of people feel that women are being treated unfairly within video game culture. Not cool!

At Cybersmile, priority numero uno is helping out anyone who comes to us for help with cyberbullying issues – and we’ve noticed that more and more of these people happen to be girls in gaming. Whether this is to do with bullying behaviour, exclusion from groups or sexist comments, there is a certainly a trend continuing that can make it pretty tough to be a female on the forums!

We want to make sure that we are here to help as many of you as possible – games should be enjoyable after all! If you need help to deal with gender-based issues in the gaming community then please do get in touch with us. Alternatively, of course, you might be completely asexual and not know your N64 from your PS4 – we’d still love to help you out if we can! Drop us a line, humans!

We’re always working on improving our resources and advice for you lovely lot – stay tuned for a new Gaming section in our Help Centre soon!
